ACCESS:  The Technology of the Future

Brain Signals Superseded by ACCESS

 

Despite significant investment in Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) technologies, BCI systems are still bulky and prone to electronic interference.  Most BCI systems need calibration and application control outputs are too slow to drive fast-moving video games.

 

Neuralink may eventually develop brain implants that produce control outputs at speeds approaching the low end of what ACCESS can produce but safety issues surrounding implants need resolving.  Even if Neuralink’s brain implants are proven safe, it might take over a decade for implants to be approved for commercial use.

 

A new and improved technology is needed.  ACCESS is that technology.

A New World of Video Games

 

What does this mean for video games?  Video games and how we control them will evolve significantly.

 

ACCESS is designed to be plug-and-play with no calibration needed.  No brain or nerve signals are used so players need no connections to their heads or other parts of their bodies.  Eye movement or hand-movement trackers are not used.  This is pure mental intention at a level not applied through any existing technology.

 

To operate a video game through ACCESS, a player watches the video screen and intends the video game to respond in a desired way.  For example, moving a cursor to a target involves visualizing the cursor on the target and the ACCESS system sends the appropriate control signals to place the cursor on target.  This mouse function occurs without the player having to move an actual mouse.

 

A multitude of video game functions can be controlled in this manner.  From linear movement of a character to switching functions, any number of simultaneous actions can be executed by full-immersion viewing of the video screen.

 

Mental skills to operate a video game can be developed incrementally.  For instance, specific functions can be selected for mental intention control through ACCESS while other functions can be controlled by hand.  As mental-intention skills develop, game functions that are still controlled by hand can be selected for mental-intention control through ACCESS.

 

Some players may find it more convenient to keep certain functions under direct hand control while using mental intention to control other functions.  Regardless of how a player configures the controls, any number of functions controlled through full-immersion observation of the video game can provide the player with advantages in terms of speed and executing complex simultaneous actions.

 

If twelve discrete functions can be executed simultaneously, hand controls may eventually become obsolete.  Hand injuries from hours of play will become a thing of the past.  Future champions of e-sports will be those who have developed the mental skills to use ACCESS.

The Evolution of Human Capabilities

 

Sixty years ago, Olympic ice dancing was done with competitors wearing suits and dresses while doing the Waltz.  Fast-forward to today and there is no comparison to how complex and difficult ice-skating competition has become.  Part of this is advanced training but competitors continually raising the bar is most important.

 

Elite e-sport players using ACCESS will likely follow the same upward trajectory in their mental skill sets.
